Fill your PDF with data, without redesigning it
Upload the file your organization already approved and draw a field wherever a value goes: text, images, dates, QR codes and tables. The original stays underneath, exactly as it was.

The design is settled. The values are not.
Your certificate, your invoice, your badge: it already went through the brand, the print shop and whoever had to sign it off. Nobody wants to rebuild that file in a new tool because four values change from one copy to the next. What you want is to keep this exact file and say where each value lands on it.
Upload it once. Draw the fields on top.
The file you upload is the base of every document that comes out. Papely does not open it up or convert it: it puts your values on a layer above, at the position you chose.
The file you have
Upload the PDF as it stands. It is stored once and reused by every document made from it.
The fields on top
Drag a box to wherever a value goes and say what kind of field it is. You can move it, resize it and set its type and alignment.
One document per set of values
Each field is filled in and the rest of the page comes out identical to the file you uploaded — same typeface, same seal, same signature.
Five kinds of field
A field is a box with a name and a type. The name is how a value finds it; the type is how that value prints.
Text
Anything that prints as a line of text: a name, a course, a city, an order number, a job title.
Image
A logo, a photo or a signature, placed in its own box. Up to 10 MB per image.
Date
Read as a date rather than as text, so it prints the same way on every document however the value arrives.
QR code
The field's value becomes the code printed on that document, so each copy carries its own.
Table
Line items over a fixed set of columns, with a number of rows that changes from one document to the next. Cells print exactly as you write them: Papely does not calculate subtotals, taxes or totals.
A table is one field, not one field per cell.
What fits on a template
A template is uploaded once and reused. Placing the fields is a job you do at the start and then leave alone.

One template, a whole intake
A training team has the certificate its organization issues: the typeface, the seal and the signature are already decided and nobody is going to redraw them. Someone uploads that PDF once and places four fields on it — the student, the course, the completion date and a QR carrying the certificate number. From then on the file is a template, and the work of a new intake is providing the values.
Swap the PDF and the fields and it is the same afternoon for invoices, badges, payslips, policies or membership cards.
And then it goes out
Placing the fields is what this page is about. Filling them in bulk, sending each document to its recipient and following what happened to it is the next step: generate PDFs from your Excel.
